Social impact strategy consulting for corporates: We help identify the social issues material to the company while addressing specific unmet needs through survey and analysis. Filling these gaps through nonprofit partner selection and development to create positive change for target population and wider community.

Strategic planning or Theory of Change workshops for nonprofits and social enterprises:  Problem-analysis review, aligning mission and vision, setting strategic prioirites and measurable goals, and determining the most effective interventions or solutions to create meaningful impact and transformative change.

To deepen governance, surface key learnings to inform strategic decision-making, PIA specializes in the following services for nonprofits and/or funder’s seeking independent evaluations:

Impact assessments: Using globally recognized frameworks eg. OECD DAC Network on Development Evaluation, to assess whether the nonprofit/partners’ programmes are in line with its intended impact and desired outcomes.

Organizational reviews: From general operations, governance, organizational structure, grant utilization and human resources

Monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) assessment: Recommendations on how to improve monitoring and evaluation practices to track impact that matters for data-driven decisions.

Adapting an organization’s actions based on strategic priorities surfaced from insights gathered, allows organizations to maximize their contribution to the world. PIA helps achieve this through advising clients on:

Advocacy, marketing and awareness-raising campaigns: How to influence policies, systems or societal attitudes and raise awareness about the issues and the need for change.

Stakeholder Engagement: Presenting evaluation processes and findings at conferences, events or through blogs, articles and marketing materials, and designing Theory of Change / Impact on a page infographics.

Regular assessment of impact effectiveness: Mid-term reviews for necessary adjustments or improvements to ensure the initiatives or programmes are achieving the desired outcomes.

Case studies

Musawah: Mid-Term Evaluation

Progress Review towards achieving its 5-Year Objectives

Musawah is a global movement for gender equality and justice in the Muslim family. Based in Malaysia, evaluation covered Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) & SE Asia. Funded by Swedish International Development Agency. (Sida).

Pia reviewed the grant utilization and core activities using OECD DAC Network guided the evaluation to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement and impact maximization.

  • Quantitative and qualitative techniques used to collect data from different stakeholders, incl. documentary review, internal & external stakeholder interviews and online surveys
  • Mapped out the effectiveness and impacts of Musawah’s intermediate outcomes highlighting key achievements and areas of attention

Deliverables

  • Full evaluation report (50 pages) with in-depth analysis.
  • Key learnings and recommendations to suppor the redevelopment of Musawah’s Theory of Change.
  • Presentation of summary report to staff and board members

The Mekong Club

Organizational Review & Impact Evaluation

Based in Hong Kong with operations in Southeast Asia, The Mekong Club works with the private sector to address modern slavery and human trafficking.
  •  Pia conducted an in-depth organizational review and evaluation of key membership programmes
  • Focus areas: Operations, Financial Management, Human Resources, Impact Review, Exploring Potential Revenue Streams
  • Internal & External stakeholder interviews, surveys, and desk research to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement and impact maximization
Deliverables
  • Full evaluation report (30 pages) with in-depth analysis
  • Key learnings and recommendations to support the redevelopment of ToC
  • Presentation of summary report to staff and board

Bloomberg Philanthropies

Evaluation of the Public Art Challenge

  • Marianna led on the review of the programme-wide theory of change so to inform subsequent years of this three years US based public artwork programme. See overleaf.
  • Closely worked with internal core staff responsible for the overall evaluation to ensure proportionality in evaluation tools and understanding from funded organisations
  • Review of local evaluator calls for proposals with funded US departments, delivery of evaluation workshop and bespoke support.

Deliverables:
Theory of Change (roadmap), evaluation workshops with appointed cities representatives and supporting tookits

Equal Justice

Theory of Change, Impact Measurement and Evaluation

Based in Hong Kong – a city with extreme wealth inequality – Equal Justice fights poverty by serving its most vulnerable communities.
  •  Developed Theories of Change (organization and programme-level)
  • Reviewing impact measurement approaches across Equal Justice three work pillars: Prevent, Provide and Progress
  • Synthesized evaluation work to date to extract key recommendations on metrics and practical data collection tools
  • Developed internal MEL guidelines to build capacity and ensure sustainability of newly developed impact measurement frameworks
  • Created an infographic targeting the wider public and funders, to effectively communicate their impact measurement approach

  • Developed ToC schematic for external parties
